Rainy day in Budapest

What to do in Budapest on a Rainy Day?

You've just arrived in Budapest and... it's raining. Luckily, rainy days are not really common in our capital, but in spring and autumn the weather can be tricky, so you might need to rethink your plans. We can help you with that: here are the best places to go and things to do on a rainy day in Budapest.

How to start a rainy day in Budapest?

Start your day with a really good breakfast. There are plenty of great places in the city centre where you can have a simple or not so simple breakfast, but if you are open to getting off the beaten track, we recommend you visit Essence Delicates or Café Coyote & Deli on the Buda side of the city. You will find that the extra journey was well worth it.

Amazing museums for everyone

Where to go next? If it's still raining, go to a museum. Trust us, Budapest has a museum for everyone. Have you heard of the Retro Museum, the Selfie Museum, the Houdini Museum or the Hungarian Money Museum and Visitor Centre? And there are so many more to discover! If you happen to be strolling through the City Park, the Hungarian House of Music and the Museum of Ethnography are both must-sees.

Magical world in a restaurant

The kids don’t want to go to a museum? Take them out for a Harry Potter-style experience then. Visit The Magic in downtown Budapest, a restaurant with a lot of adventure, just a stone-throw away from the Hungarian State Opera (also worth a visit by the way). We strongly recommend that you book a table, as the restaurant is usually full and without a reservation you can only get in when someone else is leaving.

Bath, shopping and dinnertime

After a nice lunch how about a visit to a famous bath? The Széchenyi and Gellért baths are very famous and won't let you down. But Rudas Bath is also worth a visit: it has a rooftop jacuzzi and nice spa treatments.

Batteries recharged? Enjoy some shopping in the city centre - there are so many nice little shops and world-famous brands to be found in Budapest - and then it is almost time for dinner. Before you choose a cozy spot to eat, enter St Stephen's Basilica (or at least take a rainy selfie) and then immerse yourself in the flavours of Tapassio restaurant (booking is recommended).

How many amazing places and memories on just a single (rainy) day in Budapest, right? We told you, it would be a pity to spend it in your hotel room just because it’s raining.
