Hungary has several public holidays throughout the year. These are the official public holidays when most businesses, offices, and schools are closed.

October 23 – National Day (Nemzeti ünnep) – Anniversary of the 1956 Revolution
November 1 – All Saints' Day (Mindenszentek)
December 25-26 – Christmas (Karácsony)

Usually most stores and shops, businesses are closed on these holidays. Don't be surprised if you can't find as many services available on these days. For example, the Central Market Halls pictured above is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Yes, unlike in many countries in Europe stores are allowed to be open on Sundays, so major big box stores, grocery stores, shopping malls, restaurants, cafés cinemas will be open, smaller businesses might be open with reduced hours on the weekends.
Most pharmacies will be closed on Sundays, but you should find a few on-duty paharmacies that are available at any given time.
