Real or Artificial? - New Exhibit at the Kiscelli Museum
Housed within an 18th-century Baroque monastery and church, the Kiscelli Museum is part of the Budapest History Museum network. Its unique setting in an 18th century Baroque monastery provides an atmospheric backdrop for exploring the evolution of the Hungarian capital up to the 21st century. The museum's permanent exhibitions feature a diverse array of artifacts, including period furniture, historic shop signs, printing equipment, and photographs, all of which narrate the city's dynamic transformation over the centuries.

The Museum Building
Currently on display is the thought-provoking exhibition "Real and Artificial Identities," part of the 2025 Budapest Photo Festival. This recently opened exhibition delves into the intersection of traditional photography and artificial intelligence, showcasing works that blur the lines between reality and digital fabrication. Visitors can explore a range of portraits—from classic analog photographs to AI-generated images—that challenge perceptions of authenticity and identity in the digital age. The exhibit is open until 23 June.
Note: Due to limited space in the exhibition rooms, visitors who are not attending a specific program are asked to plan their visit outside of program times, if possible. Temporary exhibitions can be viewed during the museum’s regular opening hours, from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 6 PM. A program ticket grants access to both the permanent and temporary exhibitions on the day of the event. A tour/walk ticket allows entry to the museum’s exhibitions within 30 days.
Location: 1037 Budapest, Kiscelli utca 108.
