House of Music Hungary Receives New Prestigious Award
The House of Music Hungary, which has received significant international recognition, has reached another important milestone by winning a special award at the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA), the most important museum award ceremony in Europe. The jury recognised the House of Music as one of the most exceptional museums on the continent, commending its innovative, visitor-friendly approach. The ceremony took place in Białystok, Poland. It was founded by the European Museum Forum (EMF) under the auspices of the Council of Europe.
The EMYA Award is one of the most prestigious awards in the European museum sector. It is presented annually to institutions that transform the museum experience through innovative ideas, social commitment, and exemplary operations. The House of Music Hungary has thus attracted attention from both the domestic and international museum communities.
According to the jury that awarded the prize: 'The House of Music Hungary uniquely combines experiential knowledge transfer, contemporary architecture, and interactive exhibition solutions, while also becoming a real community space. It shows other European institutions how to convey musical culture using modern methods that are accessible to everyone, regardless of social background.”
Over the course of last year, the jury members visited the applicant institutions, returning to some of them several times, before finalising the 2024 EMYA shortlist. At the conference in Poland between 21 and 25 May, all 42 shortlisted candidates introduced themselves, sharing their experiences, professional philosophies, and achievements. 'Participation in itself was huge recognition, and this special award confirms that we are on the right track,' said Márton Horn, the institutional director of the House of Music. “We are extremely pleased to receive this professional recognition, which confirms our mission to present music and its cultural contexts and community-building role in an experiential way that is accessible to all ages. We thank the jury, the EMF and all our supporters. Of course, we also congratulate the other award winners!”
The award aims to recognise innovation and encourage inspirational networks and international cooperation between museums. EMF is committed to breaking down cultural borders and representing the values of democracy, human rights and sustainability.
