Enjoy a Car-Free Danube Promenade in Budapest
The popular riverside promenade openings continue. The Pest Lower Quay opened to those looking to relax or stay active on the national holiday of 15 March. After that, regularly on the weekends and holidays tens of thousands of people will be able to enjoy the open quay, and see the world famous Danube panorama in the city.
The car-free section between Margaret Bridge and Elizabeth Bridge, near the Irányi Street ramp, will be open for pedestrians, cyclists, and rollerbladers to enjoy.

Visitors can access the quay from the southern side via the Irányi Street ramp or from the Közraktár Street direction by Havas Street. However, pedestrians should avoid walking on the road between the Erzsébet Bridge and Közraktár Street.
The area is a popular spot for both locals and tourists, with thousands visiting each weekend for relaxation or exercise. Last year, more than 10,000 people visited the section on average every weekend.
The opening is part of ongoing efforts to improve Budapest’s riverside, including future development projects funded by the EU, expected to begin this summer.
