Best Playgrounds on the Buda-side of the City

Playgrounds are a lot of fun, so it is not surprising that children love to go there. It is also worth visiting one or two (or more) playgrounds in Budapest, as the city has many well-preserved or modernised playgrounds. Some of them are on the Buda side of the city - let's look at our favourites that are definitely worth a visit and plan an afternoon for each one.

Hollósy Simon Park and Playground

Mini versions of the Chain Bridge, the Cogwheel Railway, the Buda Castle Tunnel and the Kisfaludy Steamboat can also be found at the Hollósy Simon Street playground in the 12th District. The park and playground, evoquing the Reform era, was renovated a few years ago, so it has some modern features such as a ping-pong table, a rubber-coated small motorbike court, drinking fountain, picnic area and toilets.

Budavári Mátyás király playground

A walk in the Castle District is always a great adventure, and with the kids, you can't miss some fun at the playground (of course). Good news: after taking some nice pictures at the Matthias Church and at the Fisherman's Bastion, you just turn right and will find a super playground with tiny houses, rondelles and tunnel systems. The little ones will love the sandpit, the slides and swings. Just follow the happy noise and you'll find it. On warm summer days, the trees provide shadow for the fun and you can also find a drinking fountain. The toilet is in walking distance and unfortunatelly it is not for free but there is also a café not far from the playground, maybe it is a good idea to grab a refreshing drink in there and use their restroom with the kids.

Address: Hunyadi János út 24, Budapest H-1011 (southern side of the Fisherman's Bastion)

Gellért Hill playground "with the slides"

What can be better than a slide? A lot of different slides on a big playground. Just like at the Gellért Hill Slide Park, which offers the chance to play on wavy, winding and tube slides, and even a double slide. To ensure the safety of the kids, the whole side of the hill is covered with rubber pads, so that children of all ages can easily and safely get to the top of the slides. The playground also features a climbing castle, a lookout tower, a suspension bridge, a trampoline, a seesaw and a swing.

"Macis játszótér" / The playground with the bears

"Macis játszótér", named after the area's emblematic bear statue, is located in the 2nd district and it is not only popular because of its beautiful location - it is like a kids' paradise in the forrest - but also because of the fun it offers. Being equipped with hammocks, climbing frames, slides and trampolines, you can plan a program for half of your day in there, for sure.

Tabáni playground

If you are looking for the playground with the best view, you will love Tabáni playground: thanks to its great location, you can enjoy the panorama of the Pest-side. The kids might not even notice it, because there is a lot of fun waiting for them at the playground. For the little ones, there is a mini slide, a climbing frame and a baby swing while for the bigger ones, multi-person slides, music island and binoculars provide the fun. You can also find picnic facilities, an insect hotel, a nature trail and plenty of shaded benches with QR codes that tell you the history of a nearby tree, show you where there are watering holes or where you can take your dog to play. There is also a drinking fountain and toilets. For teenagers and adults, the streetworkout area is also a must.

Address: Naphegy utca 67. Budapest H-1016

So we presented you all our favourite playgrounds at the Buda-side of the city, now you only have to choose your favourite. Fancy going to the Pest-side instead? No worries, we also made a list of our favourite playgrounds in there, scroll down just a little to find it.
