Most Instagrammable Spot in Budapest Right Now? Visit the Blooming Almond Trees atop Gellért Hill
Early spring means more sunshine and warmer temperatures, but in Budapest it also brings on something truly spectacular: the blossoming of the almond trees atop Gellért Hill. It is an incredibly beautiful sight with the Danube, the Liberty Bridge and the Pest side of the city right in front of you. No wonder that every year Instagram is flooded with the photos of the almond trees of Gellért Hill and nice selfies taken right in front of them.
Brief history of the famous almond trees atop Gellért Hill
In the second half of the 19th century, Károly Kerkápoly, a well-known politician of his time, planted an orchard on the well-watered southern side of the hill, and planted almond trees as a grafting plant for fruit trees. But after Kerkápoly's death, the orchard couldn't make it. Only the almond trees survived and spread up the side of the hill. The descendants of these trees, which symbolise hope, renewal and new beginnings, still blossom on Gellért Hill, providing a beautiful sight and an amazing location for your Instagram photos in March.
How to get there?
It's only a short walk from Szent Gellért tér - Műegyetem station (Metro 4 and some buses also stop there), but it's well worth the effort. Take a look at the pictures and you'll see why we say that.
So if you visit Budapest these days and want to take some super Instagrammable pictures or TikTok videos that will attract those small but precious love reactions, well, you already know where to go.
